The art exhibition "100 YEARS" a three-person exhibition featuring work by

JIANG Qigu | KUO Cheng-Yung | WANG Frank Yefeng

opens on Friday, April 6, with a reception from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

In conjunction with the 17th Annual Asian American Showcase at the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School the Foundation for Asian American Independent Media (FAAIM) is proud to be part of the Chicago Chinatown Centennial Celebration in presenting the three-person exhibit “100 Years” featuring Wang Frank Yefeng, Cheng-Yung Kuo, and noted painter and SAIC faculty Qigu Jiang.

These three local Chinese artists representing three generations of immigration into the United States will collaborate to explore their connection to, ideas about, and reactions to this neighborhood within the past century and as it continues to evolve. Their project will strive to combine their own different approaches, processes, and aesthetics from traditional ink brush painting to digital media that forms the outline of a mythical dragon from the collective body of their own individual work stretched out across the length of the gallery cafe wall.

Noun: A body of water or air moving in a definite direction, esp. through a surrounding body of water or air in which there is less movement.
Adjective: Belonging to the present time; happening or being used or done now.
33 Contemporary Gallery embraces both meanings of the word "CURRENT" in order to give shape to an exhibition that symbolizes the current new direction of the gallery to promote international collaborations and also showcases the current works being made by its multidisciplinary artists. The exhibition takes place in the main gallery space of the Zhou B Art Center.
CURRENT coincides with "NETWORK: From Turin to Chicago and Vice-Versa" which takes place at 33 Contemporary Gallery. This exhibition is the result of an international collaboration between Turin and Chicago. The collaboration begins this month with an exhibition of contemporary Italian artists in 33 Contemporary Gallery and it is followed by an exhibition of contemporary Chicago artists in the Museo Regionale Di Scienze Naturali Di Torino, Italy from July 5 to August 30, 2012.

Nowadays just about any and everything can be categorized as “sexy”. But what turns people on oftentimes derives from the eye that then
travels below the neckline to lower regions encompassing how something or someone smells or tastes or feels as well.

So does it affect the mind as something sensual? Or is it more physical, a biological condition or chemical reaction or physiological attraction, perhaps?

Zhou B Art Center Gallery, Main floor

Opening Reception: Friday, November 19 from 7 to 10 pm

Immediate Mark Postcard

The Immediate Mark engages the most basic and intimate act of art-making, making a mark. Be it placing graphite to paper, brush and paint to canvas, a gouge to wood, or an impression in clay or metal, the immediate mark signifies the physical and tactile beginning of an idea. It is the impetus that sets in motion one or thousands of following marks to achieve the artist's intent. By making the mark the artist accepts commitment and challenges the new, the different, and the as yet unexplored.

?unsuspected revelations?

A Solo Exhibition by 郭正雍 Cheng-Yung Kuo

Pacific Culture Foundation’s Art Center is pleased to present ?unsuspected revelations?, a solo exhibition by ??? Cheng-Yung Kuo, who recently received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  The exhibition will include the COMPETE (Reflections on Reality # 23) from his "Reflection" series photography images. COMPETE, an integration of the Chicago architectural style with strong humanities was favored by President of the United States, Barack Obama, and was displayed in the Washington D.C. Obama’s office when he was the Illinois Senator.

The works on display used "reflections" as the breakthrough point, using a specific reflection of the medium to translate fleeting moments in life and recorded those eternal lights.  Through the image creations, a bridge for the audience is constructed.  Not only does ??? Cheng-Yung Kuo records these sights of richness in each focus, but he also condenses the instant of beauty, truth, and fantasy, which invoke both self reflection and idiosyncrasy.

In “Reflection” series, ??? Cheng-Yung Kuo uses different vehicle to capture images derived from his own personal experience while he was in a foreign environment, battling both linguistic adjustments and the ever - increasing longing for the warmth of home.  These feelings were difficult to express verbally, and they serve as inspirations for ??? Cheng-Yung Kuo’s works.

Pacific Cultural Foundation’s goal is to enhance the cultural quality of life and promote social harmony, as well as gain the international and inter-regional mutual understanding and friendship as the purpose of processing activities.  This time we are inviting the artist, ??? Cheng-Yung Kuo, to share his reflections of his life in the United States, as well as his works from the United States back to Taiwan.   Let people see his creation of photographic art, things from a different perspective and things they never could have imagined in ?unsuspected revelations?.

Typhoon Morakot   caused wide-spread damage in southern and eastern of Taiwan on the 7th and 8th of august of this year. Although the winds of Typhoon Morakot were not so severe, the storm dropped heavy amounts of rain, especially in Pingtung and Taitung which received record-breaking rainfall. The massive flooding has destroyed bridges and roads, and submerged many homes forcing residents to evacuate and stay in shelters.

Taiwan has officially requested assistance from the international community to help victims of Typhoon Morakot. A group of artists and volunteers in Taiwan is organizing a charity bazaar/exhibition and fundraiser, which will be held on August 22nd and 23rd, 2009, as part of "ARTTOGETHER‧ rebuilding our homes" event.  Hundreds of artists have been invited to exhibit and sell their work.  Revenues will be used entirely to help victims of Typhoon Morakot.

(The School of the Art Institute of Chicago),繼續深造。

Crossing image
Every day people cross paths and interact with others, creating intersections of communication. The concept of “crossing” bridges the culture gap and artistic valueto produce a broaden perspective of art from the intersection of the artists and the audience. The exhibition features the essence of multi-cultural overlap of Taiwanese artists practicing in Chicago. When the alien turns into the native, domestic into the foreign, struggles and conflicts ensue. Experiencing theiridentities of being culturally marginalized, the selected works of the Taiwanese of SAIC voice their understanding and initiate a public dialogue with the audience.
